The Chinese Community
Members are often unfamiliar with their rights and become the victims of unscrupulous companies, employers, or individuals.
CPA provides know-your-rights information, counseling, and referral services to community members on a drop-in basis. We do not duplicate services provided by other agencies but focus on service gaps and on helping people learn about their rights and learn to help themselves. CPA also collaborates with Greater Boston Legal Services Asian Outreach Program to provide a weekly legal service clinic in our office.
Our drop-in information and referral service hours are on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturday mornings.
Services provided in the past year
In the past year, we provided drop-in service to approximately 2,000 individuals in the areas of consumer rights, workers' rights, tenant and housing issues, Chinese document assistance, government benefits, legal referrals, and other issues. Membership activities include a weekly "tea hour,” field trips and social gatherings, and a variety of know-your-rights workshops.
